Few examples of the problem statements for ICC 2018 - Design Thinking workshop
  • Disengagement among employees is leading to increased attrition in the company.
  • The company decides to enter a new geography. Instead of building the company from scratch, can a system be templatized to shorten the time to start the company for it to be more financially viable?
  • What should COMPANY Xs diversification strategy be? Should the company focus its efforts in the telecom sector alone to increase its revenue? Can the company look at penetrating into newer market segments to increase their sources of revenue?
  • COMPANY X needs to completely revamp its current marketing strategy. What would the new marketing strategy be? How can one look into the churn statistics to think of newer marketing strategies?
  • COMPANY Xs organization structure is going through a significant transformation due to changes in the regulatory environment. Being a key decision maker, how do you plan to revamp COMPANY Xs organization structure?
  • The company is not investing significantly in its Research and Development efforts, consequently facing a threat to competition. The company is failing to identify the right firms to acquire to gain a competitive advantage. How can the company invest in its R and D efforts?
  • COMPANY X is not hiring for skills they were previously hiring for. It needs to have a proactive upskilling strategy and a different kind of working model. How can COMPANY X create a workplace of the future to create future ready employees?
  • To gain a semblance between work and fun is not easy. The company has never made it to the best places to work list so far. What can be done to make the company make its entry to the list?

Karthikeyan Sukumaran

Blockchain Evangelist
Use case:
A car manufacturer is concerned that service centres and garages in certain markets are knowingly (or otherwise) fitting counterfeit spare parts to their customers vehicles. Counterfeit parts jeopardise the manufacturers brand reputation when they under-perform or even worse, cause accidents.

A Blockchain based system connected with smart devices would enable the service centre, the car manufacturer and the customer to trace the provenance of spare parts back through every step in the supply chain to its original manufacture date and location.

Currently, it can be a difficult and costly exercise for a Warranty team to identify if a warranty claim has been made against a genuine part or if the part in question is counterfeit, grey market or end-of-life. Using a Blockchain system that provides full traceability of part history will make it easy for the Warranty team to identify counterfeits quickly. Over time this will deter fraudulent behaviour and reduce warranty costs.

Structure of the session:
  • Will give an overview of the tool we will be using
  • Discuss the use case with the participants
  • The participants will have to clone the base repo
  • Start writing some parts of the smart contract
  • Run the application & will discuss the flow
  • Give a small one hour task for the participants to complete it
  • Setup a complete blockchain network and push our contract code onto it

Please Note:
Some major part of code like UI and some basic stuffs will be already created by the presenter, the delegates will only have to clone that get started for the session.

Prerequisites:
Technology Requirements for the participants:
  • Should have knowledge on Javascript - Basic/Intermediate
  • Should have basic knowledge on Blockchain
  • Should be carrying a laptop with Ubuntu or a Mac installed (Windows won't work out)
  • Couple of softwares should be installed
  • Own internet connectivity (like a personal tethering spot / wi-fi modem)
